Sustainability Initiatives

The Blood Meeting is committed to sustainability practice and reducing the impact on the environment. We encourage all attendees, sponsors, exhibitors, and suppliers to also consider environmentally friendly options in attending the Meeting.

Our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint:

Please see below some of the initiatives underway with the organisers and suppliers for the 2021 Meeting.

The Venue: Adelaide Convention Centre

  • Adelaide Convention Centre has actively participated in the EarthCheck program since 2007 and is proud to be one of the first convention centres in the world to be awarded the Platinum certification.
  • Adelaide Convention Centre has long standing relationships with Foodbank SA and OzHarvest, donating much unused or excess food to help feed the disadvantaged in the community, divert rubbish from landfill and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and water usage. Over 160,000 meals have been donated through these partnerships.
  • Waste is a large part of events and Adelaide Convention Centre has tackled this problem, virtually eliminating waste going to landfills by recycling and reusing various waste streams including electronics, glass, plastics, corks and candles. The Centre has an on-site composting system and the largest worm farm in the southern hemisphere, used to fertilise the surrounding gardens.
  • The Centre has energy saving processes in place including using efficient LED lighting, a turn-off policy and a policy of using at least 25% certified green energy.

The Meeting

  • Printed materials are kept to a minimum, with attendees encouraged to use electronic resources such as the meeting website and app. Program books will only be printed for those who indicate during registration they require a book.
  • Abstract materials are provided electronically only, via the website or app.
  • Name badges use paper and lanyards that can be recycled, no plastic.
  • Meeting bags are not provided.
  • Attendees will be provided a keep cup during registration and encouraged to use this throughout the Meeting. Additional cups supplied by the Adelaide Convention Centre are 100% biodegradable and compostable.
  • Sponsors and Exhibitors are requested to reflect positive environmental values and practices in their participation.

What can you do?

  • The Hotels selected by the Meeting are all located near to the Convention Centre, and Adelaide is a very walkable city. Where possible, we encourage you to walk between locations rather than taxi or drive.
  • Please follow the waste separation instructions at the venue and at your accommodation.
  • Tap water stations are available in the Centre, please bring your own reusable bottle or use the keep cup provided.
  • Please use the provided keep cup or biodegradable cups during the Meeting.
  • Please consider what printed materials you need, and where applicable indicate on the registration form so only appropriate resources are provided.
  • Please bring a reusable bag, if required, to carry your Meeting materials in.
