Dr Heidi Doughty OBE MBA PhD FRCP FRCPath is a consultant in Transfusion Medicine working for NHS Blood and Transplant based in Birmingham, UK. She qualified in medicine from Cambridge University in 1985 before undertaking higher training in internal medicine, haematology and management in Nottingham and London. She completed her doctoral thesis in transfusion medicine in Bergen, Norway.
Dr Doughty has worked in Birmingham since 1998, in a variety of roles from donor services to hospital transfusion practice. Interests include oversees the development and military-civilian health partnership. She has held positions as Consultant Adviser to the Defence Medical Services and co-chair of the NATO Blood Panel. Current national roles include blood component development and emergency preparedness.
She is an honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham and is affiliated with the Birmingham NIHR Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre. Her interests include the development and delivery of pre-hospital and emergency transfusion. She currently chairs the National Blood Transfusion Committee Emergency Planning working group and is president-elect of the British Blood Transfusion Society.
